I wrote this review years ago on IGN.com. Thought I'd repost it for old times sake!
January 26, 2007 - I never thought I would have so much fun leveling again. It seemed like an eternity at level 60, but this expansion has made me forget about the grind in Molten Core and the mindless pvp'ing.
The World is HUGE. On top of that, the art direction is simply amazing. The WoW Devs have an extremely large imagination and it shows. Places like Nagrand and Zangamarsh are beautiful.I find myself running with the camera pointed at the sky just to look at the planets. The world of Outlands makes this expansion so great. You actually feel like you are drifting in outer space. Sounds wierd but it works.
Also the rewards in Outland are crazy powerful. I just recently replaced my Tier 1 pants with a QUEST item GREEN. Also replaced my dagger epic and offhand epic with a quest green staff.
The dungeons are far more doable then the original WoW. I used to dread doing Scholomance and have to sit there for 3 hours. The longest I've spent in an instance so far is about an hour and a half.
I can go on and on about the positives about the expansion, HOWEVER, there are definitely negatives also. The quests are very repetitive and bland, save a couple unique ones in Hellfire Peninsula (bombing run anyone?). But the majority of the quests are still "kill X mobs" or "gather X fruits from trees". Would love to see some different types of quests next major patch or expansion. I know the kill/gather quests will always be there, but there needs to be some more flavor. Maybe if there were more different types of mobs to kill, which isn't the case. I'm still killing dumb ogres from Arathi Highlands and wolves from the Hinterlands. Don't get me wrong, there are new badass monsters out there like the Warp Hunter in Terrokar and the Whithering Giants in Zangamarsh, but we need more Blizzard!
Another gripe I have is the lack of decent Rep rewards for the amount of reputation out there. They are lackluster for the amount of grind you have to do to get them. I have seen most of the beginning rep rewards like Sporeggar and The Consortium, and even the epics are pretty boring at exhalted.
In conclusion, I am really enjoying Burning Crusade. The new zones are gorgeous and huge with hundreds of quests to do. Even though the game is pretty much the same kill this and gather that, just being able to say "ding" in guild chat makes the grind worth it.

10.0 | Presentation The zones art direction is fantastic. Each zone has its own theme and fits it very well.
8.0 | Graphics Same graphics we are all used to, even though the designers are still pushing it to the limit and succeeding.
7.0 | Sound The new tracks are good, but not enough to merit a higher score than 7.
9.5 | Gameplay The reason I even play this game is because of the gameplay. Now there is more spells and more instances to entertain.
9.0 | Lasting Appeal In about 6 months, we will be awaiting word of a new expansion. But it will be fun until then.
9.1 | OVERALL (out of 10 / not an average) |
